About the program

Have you ever been curious about Kirkmont Center situated on Bristle Ridge just beyond the village of Zanesfield? Are you interested in foraging or improving your plant identification skills while hiking? If so, you are invited to participate in a Walk on the Wildside organized by the Dr. Sloan Library in collaboration with Kirkmont Center.

Led by Jody Brown from The Fleurette Garden Club of Logan County, a seasoned gardener, herbalist, and local forager with over thirty years of experience in working with plants for food and medicine. Jody is passionate about helping individuals establish a connection with nature and equipping them with the knowledge to utilize plants for nourishment.

During our walk, you will gain insights into plant identification, foraging tools, wildcrafting safety, land connection, and other essential resources that will enhance your future nature excursions.

For locals familiar with Kirkmont Center but have not visited, this is a great opportunity to explore one of Ohio's most unique natural sites. Kirkmont Center features a natural fen, two ponds, cliffs, and ravines, providing diverse opportunities for youth camps, school groups, and adult education programs. Their mission is to offer rejuvenating camping experiences, outdoor education, and retreats. Visit the Kirkmont Center website HERE.

This is a family friendly walk, so all ages are welcome.

WHERE TO MEET:

Located two miles east of Zanesfield on County Road 10.

Once you turn in to Kirkmont Center, follow the driveway back to the right.

Then, take the first left into the parking lot where the Shelter House and Pavillion are located.

We will meet at the Shelter House!

Plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early to allow time for parking and getting situated.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Wear comfortable shoes and consider bringing a hat, sunglasses, and bug repellent.

The hike will be leisurely, but the terrain is diverse. Please plan accordingly.

In the meantime, please feel free to stop by the library and check out our vast array of books related to nature.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
